Robbie Cannon President & CEO
The majority owner of Horizon Investments, Mr. Cannon is responsible for developing and executing the firm’s strategic vision. He has served on the Investment Committee since joining the firm as a principal in 1999. Mr. Cannon has been the architect of the firm's growth and innovative product offerings. Prior to Horizon, he began as a fundamental and quantitative analyst for PPC Inc.
Mr. Cannon received a BA from Furman University.
Jeffrey Roach, Ph. D. Chief Economist, Investment Committee Chair
Dr. Roach supervises the firm's market analysis and portfolio management. Before joining the firm in 2006, he was a senior economist at Bank of America. In order to facilitate cutting edge research, he maintains frequent contact with Federal Reserve Board economists, Wall Street Analysts and other leading economists from around the world.
Dr. Roach received a B.S. in mathematics from Bob Jones University, a MA in economics from Clemson University, and a Ph.D. in economics from Clemson University.
Josh Bartholomew National Sales Director
Mr. Bartholomew is responsible for the firm's sales and marketing efforts. Prior to Horizon, Mr. Bartholomew was a regional account executive at Renaissance World Wide, Inc. a national consulting firm.
Mr. Bartholomew received a BA from North Carolina at Greensboro and a MS from Appalachian State.
William Breen, Ph. D
Senior Investment Strategist
Dr. Breen brings the firm decades of fundamental, economic, and quantitative research with the ability to innovate his experiences with today's current investment problems. Before Horizon, Dr. Breen was chairman and a founding director of Disciplined Investment Advisors, an equity manager with over $2 billion.
Dr. Breen is Emeritus Professor of Finance at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, where he was also chairman of the Finance Department and head of Doctoral Studies. He has published more than 40 articles and academic papers and has coauthored several books on investment strategy, corporate finance, asset pricing, and econometric theory. He has served on the boards of The LaSalle Trust Company, Barton-Ashmann, X10ion Inc., and the Evanston Community Foundation.
Dr. Breen received a BA in economics and mathematics from Ripon College, completed graduate work at the London School of Economics as a Rotary International Fellow, and received a Ph.D. in economics from Cornell University.
Ronald Saba, CFA
Director of Equity Research
Mr. Saba contributes to the Investment Committee with his expertise in equity markets and valuations. Mr Saba was managing partner and chief investment officer at Charlotte Capital LLC, where he was also lead portfolio manager of its predecessor firm's small/micro value and small company value portfolios. In his 20-plus-year career, Mr. Saba also worked for Pioneer Investment Management and Heartland Advisors. During his time at Heartland, Mr. Saba's co-managed fund at Heartland was recognized with a 5-Star Morningstar ranking.
Mr. Saba received a BSBA in Finance from the The Ohio State University, an MBA from the University of Chicago, and holds a Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
T. Daniel Coggin, Ph. D.
Director of Research, Retirement Group
Dr. Coggin works closely with plan sponsors and investment consultants to evaluate and select investment managers and advise on asset allocation and participant education. Before joining the firm, he served as a senior risk analyst for BB&T and the director of research for the Virginia Retirement System, where he served on the management committee for this $40 billion plan.
Dr. Coggin's 30 years of quantitative investment and portfolio management experience includes serving on the editorial boards of The Journal of Portfolio Management and The Journal of Investing and coauthoring several books and articles on investment management.
Dr. Coggin received a BA from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, a MS degree from Florida State University, and a Ph.D. from Michigan State University.
Kevin Blocker, CAIA
Quantitative Strategist
One of the original developers of the firm’s investment process, Mr. Blocker specializes in quantitative analysis and portfolio construction using traditional and alternative investment strategies. As a member of the firm's Investment Committee, Mr. Blocker is responsible for screening investment opportunities and portfolio optimization. Mr. Blocker also consults with the firm's DB and DC clients on asset allocation and manager selection.
Mr. Blocker received a BA and BS in mathematics, computer science, and Spanish at Wofford College. Mr. Blocker also holds the CAIA designation. Before Horizon, Mr Blocker played short stop for the Colorado Rockies organization.
James Breen
Director of Fiduciary Services
Mr. Breen heads the firm's Erisa activity as the Director of Fiduciary Services.
Before joining the firm he was a senior vice president at LCG Associates, an Atlanta-based pension consulting firm, where he serviced over $10 billion in institutional client assets. He was also a senior vice president at Disciplined Investment Advisors, equity manager with over $2 billion in assets.
Mr. Breen has helped develop curricula and lectured on pension fund management for the Kellogg Graduate School's Continuing Executive Education Programs, and has published articles on a variety of quantitative investment subjects.
Mr. Breen received a BS from Northwestern University and MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.
Scott Ladner
Director of Alternative Strategies
Mr. Ladner provides trading, risk management, and quantitative expertise to several of the firm’s strategies, with a particular emphasis on building Horizon’s capabilities within the alternative and absolute return investment space.
Prior to Horizon, Mr. Ladner was a founder of Charlotte Global Advisors and Principal Guard. Mr. Ladner also helped to launch an equity index volatility and dispersion trading unit at PEΔK6 Investments in Chicago, a proprietary listed option trading firm. Previously at First Union/Wachovia, Mr.Ladner founded and ran the $4 billion equity swap and forwards portfolio alongside of his listed equity option and over-the-counter equity derivatives portfolios. Coincident with his equity derivatives trading responsibilities, he also co-founded and managed the Risk Arbitrage and Special Situations portfolio. After moving into the Interest Rate Derivatives group, Mr. Ladner managed the $300 billion notional swaption and cap/floor portion of the bank’sinterest rate derivatives portfolio.
Mr. Ladner received his BA in Economics and Russian Language & Literature from the
University of
North Carolina at
